The Sunrise Foundation is currently working on a long-term strategic plan. We are at a significant point of transition, both the Foundation, and the programs that we support in Nicaragua. Having served the community of Camoapa for 7 years, there is continued and growing demand for additional services. We are currently developing our Board and its capacity so that we can best manage the needs of our Nicaraguan programs.
In January 2010, we developed our second program Ayudame a Crecer as the first phase of growth. We hope to be able to move many of the children from this program to the Hogar Luceros program – those specifically who would benefit from more intensive services – while continuing to expand Ayudame a Crecer for those who need only limited services. We also intend to foster our new Adolescent Program that is still in its beginning stages.
Since we opened our doors in Camoapa, our plan has been to build a larger building – our own building – within the city limits. Originally we planned to build on the farmland that we acquired soon after beginning the project. This still may come to pass, however we are in the process of working with a community group to determine the best strategy for growth. We are also in the process of cultivating formal partnerships with some of the other local organizations that we currently work closely with in order to better address the needs of the family unit.
