Founded in 2004 by the current Executive Director, Rachel Greenwood, The Sunrise Foundation (TSF) was established as a U.S. based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to offer support and address the needs of the most at-risk children and families in Camoapa, Nicaragua.
If it weren’t for the services that they receive at our center, many of these young children would still be living or working on the streets, others would be given responsibilities at home way beyond what a child’s responsibilities should be, such as caring for a newborn while the mother goes off to work for a 12-hour day. And still others would be so far behind in school that, without the support of literate parents or extra help in the classroom, they would inevitably drop out of school from feelings of incompetence, most likely leading to a life on the street. And nearly all would not be receiving sufficiently nutritious meals for a healthy diet
Currently we run three programs to address these issues:
Hogar Luceros del Amanecer (HDLA) – our intensive semi-residential day program
Ayudame a Crecer – our extended outreach program
Our Adolescent Program – for the young adults who have grown up with us
